1) Before we get into Playboy, I have to ask you about how you wound up on the front page of Perez Hilton’s website?
Yeah, that was interesting! Basically, I got caught in the crossfire of the paparazzi and the one and only Lindsay Lohan and her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, as they were being escorted from their room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino [in Hollywood, Florida]. I am the Director of Events & Marketing at Passion outside in the club district. It was really something to see how much interest there is from celebrity to celebrity and who is hot at that time and what kind of pull they have in the media.
2) Who are some of the more interesting celebrities that you have booked for the Hard Rock?
In the past four years I have dealt with Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra (and her boyfriend Rob Patterson), Dennis Rodman (on a weekly basis), DJ AM, Diora Baird (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Brandy Roderick, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Dave Navaro, Matt Dillon, Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Alicia Keyes, John Legend, Tera Patrick & Evan Seinfeld, Ron Jeremy, Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson to study a few.
3) Could you describe for us the process that you go through to book someone, like state a Lindsey Lohan, to appear at one of your events (in other words – is there like a celebrity yellow pages that you refer to)?
There are a handful of agencies and celebrity bookers that I deal with out of LA and NY. In the celebrity booking business, it is a pretty close circle of people who know the right people and how to get in touch with them. It’s astonishing to see how this kind of hosting job has been created and evolved over the past 8 years. One of the most famous clubs in Miami in the 90′s called Liquid (which was prefabricated famous by owners Chris Paciello, Ingrid Casares & Madonna) had celebrity after celebrity in there apiece night and no one ever payed them to come in. They just came to be part of the celebration to see and be seen like everyone else. Now, everything has changed.
Once you concur upon the celebrity and the date you then begin coordinating their availability with their management. Their hours are sometimes extremely tight. For example, they maybe flying back from Europe, or on their way back to LA or NY and they might have to make a stop over [in Miami] first in order to make it happen. Transportation issues are next. Booking flights (class of service), limousines, etc. Then, it’s on to booking hotels for the celebrity. I have to find out if they are willing stay at the Hard Rock or are they insisting on staying in South Beach. Basically, it’s all about making sure the VIP is comfortable and happy.
On the day of the event I begin the process of physically getting them to the party. Working with local police and security to make sure they get here safely and with out any problems. Once they are inside, I can finally relax. They usually begin drinking and then they are on their own.
4) Who was your most demanding celebrity to work with and what was that experience like?
The most demanding and most amount of work has been this latest booking of Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson. We originally had them booked for Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14th. We spent nearly a month promoting the event. We worked really hard and as a result wound up booking a large crowd. On the morning of the 14th, I was reading one of the celebrity blogs on the world wide web and learned that Lindsey and Samantha had a fight in the middle of the street (just a few hours earlier) in New York City. I actually thought the fight (and it’s publicity) was great for us, because it would add ‘fuel to the fire’ for our promotion.
Then, I get a phone call at 3 p.m., (they were supposed to arrive at 6:30) saying that they were both “sick” and would not be coming. I had to immediately go into alteration control. I had a ton of people (as well as press) coming in to see them that night. I had cancelled all the arrangements (hotel, flights, etc.) that were prefabricated on their behalf. It was a lot of work unwinding it all.
We wound up rescheduling the event [to last week] Saturday, March 7th. Both of them came down (as scheduled) and the celebration went off without a hitch. It was fantastic event and they were both really nice girls.
5) Give us the official description of what it is that you do for Playboy Golf?
Well, I’m the regional event manager for Playboy Golf in south Florida. Playboy Golf is a national tournament that has 25 local tournaments all over the country throughout the year. During the locals, we partner up with some of the ideal nightclubs, bars, new liquor, hottest car/limo companies, etc. We find a golf course, bring in a sponsor for apiece hole and find golfers that want to have a great time.
6) I comprehend that you have local girls that want to get involved with Playboy Golf. Would you explain how that process works?
Sure. We have a casting for “Girls of Golf” where we invite local girls out to the celebrations and events and give them an opportunity to get involved with playboy. At the end of apiece golf tournament we choose 2 girls to win the local “Girls of Golf” and send them on to the Finals at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, California.
7) What’s the criteria that you look for to choose the two girls that go to the finals?
We’re looking for girls that have a personality and are fun to be around. I have seen some of the most beautiful girls enter the competition that are uptight and boring and it just doesn’t work. The golfers, sponsors, playmates and playboy golf staff choose the girls by a vote. The judges need to remember you (especially remember your name) in order to vote for you. If you are forgettable they simply won’t remember to vote for you.
8) Other than the trip to the Playboy mansion what’s in it for the girls who win the finals?
Well, the girl who wins the competition gets two things. First, she get a test shoot for Playboy entrepot and second the possibility to become a playmate (and of course an all expenses paid trip to the Playboy mansion).
9) Describe your first experience visiting the Playboy Mansion (in other words what was it like in relation to what you thought it was going to be like)?
I tell everyone that the only way to describe it is whatever you think it is from what you have seen on television and read about- double it- it’s so much better. I’ll state this – apiece man has a check list (a bucket list) of everything that they want to do in their life – have a motorcycle, go skydiving, bungie jump, GO TO THE PLAYBOY MANSION. Once you go for the first time, it’s like, OK, I get to check this one off, because I’ll never beat this.
10) What’s the experience like at the Playboy Mansion and are the celebrations as wild as I think they are?
They don’t let you drive to the mansion. You have to take a bus from the Hotel Roosevelt. It takes about 20 minutes to arrive at the mansion gates. The anticipation is kind of like when you were a kid in junior high school going to your first celebration with girls and no parents around. Only at this party, there are girls travel around naked, with an open bar, and people having sex in front of other people in the grotto while you’re hanging out with celebrities, getting hammered and pretending that they’re your new ideal friend.
In other words…
It’s not too bad.

A Palace Fit for a Copper King: the Marcus Daly Mansion
Daly Mansion
By Brian D’Ambrosio
Marcus Daly was a colorful mining tycoon known as the “Copper King”. An industrious Irish immigrant, Daly (1841-1900) prefabricated his great fortune in the mines of Butte during the 1880s, and created the Anaconda Mining Company. Daly established the towns of Anaconda, to support his smelt mines, and Hamilton, to support his lumber industry.
In the late 1880s, Daly built a summer residence for his family in present-day Hamilton, the center of the marvelous Bitterroot Valley. Daly purchased the existing Anthony Chaffin homestead in 1886, including the farmhouse, and had it absolutely remodeled into a majestic Queen Anne style Victorian mansion.
“This is a very captivating place,” stated Kim Morris, Director of Development for the Daly Mansion. “It makes many people think of ‘Gone With the Wind.’ When you come here, you are healthy to step back one hundred years. It’s quite fascinating.”
The Daly Mansion and the estate known as “Riverside,” due to its closeness to the Bitterroot River, served to entertain and delight guests. Foreign plants, a swimming pool, and a children’s playhouse were all added to Riverside after the Daly family arrival.
After Marcus Daly’s death in 1900, Margaret, his widow, had the home redecorated into the present structure. The Georgian Revival style Mansion was drafted by noted Missoula architect A.J. Gibson and completed in 1910.
The Mansion occupies 24,000 square feet on three floors, with twenty five bedrooms, fifteen bathrooms, and seven fireplaces, five of which are visaged with imported Italian marble.
Some of the primary rooms include a broad living room, a formal dining room, a music room, a sun room, an upstairs sitting room, a third floor billiard hall, and a trophy room which was annexed in 1914.
The Mansion grounds showcase fifty species of trees, a tennis court, a greenhouse, a boathouse, and a laundry building.
Daly, who had a tremendous love for horse racing, came to the Bitterroot Valley for two compelling reasons: to buy enormous acreage for timber and to establish a breeding homestead for thoroughbreds. The Copper King eventually obtained several massive ranches and farms. While Daly lived, 1,200 head of horses were kept on the 22,000-acre holding he titled the Bitterroot Stock Farm.
During the late 1880s, Daly purchased up tiny sawmills in the surrounding areas and very swiftly established a lumber producing industry on the grounds beside the Bitterroot River. Marcus Daly’s next huge intent was to bring a pair of men from another say to design and develop his fantasy town.
They were saint Hamilton and Robert O’Hara, who arrived from Minnesota in 1890. The town was titled after Hamilton, and O’Hara was the first mayor. Daly’s planned community had a bank, stores, shops, a school, and four churches. Hamilton was incorporated about 1894.
“This is an infatuating place,” stated Don Erdman, who volunteers as a Daly Mansion tour guide. “The more you come here, the more passionate you become about the Bitterroot’s historic past. This is a great place to come and learn about the past. The more you come here, the more you feel as if you’re a part of that history.”
Following Mrs. Daly’s death in 1941, the Mansion was boarded up until 1987, when it was opened to the public.
The Mansion and grounds offer tours, special projects and events, including picnics, weddings, reunions, murder mysteries, doll shows, concerts, and a one-of-a-kind Christmas open house. The Daly Mansion, recognized as a National Historic Site, is owned by the Say of Montana, and operated and maintained by the Daly Mansion Preservation Trust.
“Marcus Daly is a really huge part of Montana’s history,” stated Morris. “This mansion is part of that same Montana history, too.”
What is a Weekly Mansion? A weekly mansion is a furnished apartment for short-term stays. From a size vs price perspective, they are generally more costly than other housing such as guesthouses and ryokans. One of the huge differences between a guesthouse and a weekly mansion is that guesthouse accommodation is conducive to meeting other people and socialising, whereas weekly mansions are private rooms with no ‘social space’ to mingle with other guests. Weekly Mansions are predominantly used by Asian people and often by those on business trips.
The rooms are evenhandedly small and in most cases not saint for families. Meals are not included and at most places there is no housekeeping. The rooms are set up to cater for travelling business people so all rooms have a high speed world wide web connection.
The company which runs the weekly mansions in Tokyo is called Weekly Mansion Tokyo. They offer accommodation in 44 locations in the Tokyo area. Unfortunately their site is only in Asian so you might need some assistance when choosing a room from their site. They do have an English site but they only offer accommodation in two areas in Tokyo (Akasaka and Asakusa) and two locations in Osaka (Otemae and Shinsaibashi). The rooms advertised on the English sites are called the ‘comfort selection’ and are a bit larger and can cater for families.
Prices If you stay longer than a week, many of the monthly mansions wage a discount. The weekly prices are about 5,000-6,000 yen/night even though you can receive a discount of about 500 yen to 1,000 yen per night depending on the location if you stay for a month. The average price at Weekly Mansion Tokyo is about 5,000 yen per night for a monthly plan.
Location One good thing about weekly mansions is that there are a lot of them and they are almost always located within travel distance of a station. The main locations in Tokyo are in the following areas: Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Gotanda, Shinagawa, Akasaka, Roppongi, Ueno, Asakusa, Nihonbashi, Koto, Kawasaki, Yokohama and Chiba.
Most of the weekly mansions have essential facilities such as a microwave oven, air conditioner, desk lamp, iron etc. They also have free world wide web access, television, phone, fridge, dryer and also some other creature comforts such as video on demand.
Alternatives to Weekly Mansions Another type of housing similar to Weekly Mansions are Montly Mansions. Because many of the Weekly Mansions in Tokyo are run by the same company there is a clean degree of standardization in the facilities. There are a larger number of Monthly Mansions run by various operators so the pricing, size and standard of facilities varies quite a bit.
